In Memoriam Prof. J. Bosch

With profound sorrow, our Research Lab mourns Professor Jaume Bosch Genover, who passed on July 15, 2025.

Professor Bosch was a giant of hepatology. As the founder of the Hepatic Hemodynamic Laboratory at the Liver Unit of the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, his translational and clinical research on portal hypertension led to many major changes in clinical practice that certainly saved many lives. Professor Bosch did more than generate the knowledge; he also trained the hands that implemented it. Over 100 hepatologists were mentored by him, becoming carriers of this transformation across the world.

During the last nine years, Professor Bosch lived in Berne, and he played a pivotal role in our Lab. As an inspiring mentor, he supported many PhD students, fellows, and members of the Berne hepatology team. His guidance on research ideas, manuscript drafts, and career paths was always honest, direct, and very insightful. He saw further than most, recognized talent instinctively, and nurtured it, as only true masters can do.

Prof. Jaume Bosch was far more than a brilliant academic and physician. He was an extraordinary human being—charming, wise, curious, generous, and full of life. His presence radiated warmth. His fantastic intellectual brilliance was accompanied by wit and a touch of lightness, in a very special and unique mix. To know him was a privilege, to work alongside him, a gift.

Professor Bosch’s legacy lives on in the scientific advances he championed, in the many individuals he guided, and in the high values he embodied.

We will honor his memory by continuing the work to which he so passionately dedicated himself.
