Connective tissue diseases (CTD) are autoimmune disorders with complex pathophysiology and heterogeneous clinical phenotypes. Unmet needs include the elucidation of the underlying pathomechanisms, the development of targeted therapies and the identification of easily available predictors of disease outcome and therapeutic response. Lung involvement in connective tissues diseases is in particular associated with a poor prognosis. We follow a multi-OMICS approach using human biosamples, complemented with imaging technologies and disease modelling in animals and primary human cell cultures. The aim of our translational projects is the generation of comprehensive pre-clinical data sets underlying CTD to pave the way towards a personalized medicine and a better care for patients in the future.
