Eggel Lab

Welcome to the Eggel Lab, where scientific innovation meets dedication in the pursuit of scientific excellence!

Our research group, led by Assoc. Prof. Alexander Eggel, is at the forefront of immunology research and is affiliated with both the Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR) at the University of Bern and the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology at the University Hospital Bern in Switzerland.

Our primary focus lies in unraveling the intricate biological mechanisms that underlie type 2 immune responses, encompassing both their beneficial and pathogenic aspects. Within this realm, we are dedicated to two pivotal areas of investigation. Firstly, we strive to gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of allergies and are committed to developing innovative treatments that directly intervene in the allergic cascade. Secondly, our research delves into age-related disorders and their intricate connections with alterations in type 2 immune responses.

Our lab's special focus on translational immunology, particularly in the realm of allergy research, aims to make meaningful contributions to the field. We are driven by an unwavering commitment to advance our basic understanding and seek novel approaches for diagnosing and treating immunologic disorders.

The approaches we chose are multidisciplinary, encompassing molecular, cellular, and systemic methodologies, all aimed at identifying crucial biological mechanisms that contribute to the pathophysiology of allergies as well as age-related diseases.
