Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR)

Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Laboratory (PMSCF)

The Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Laboratory is a central core facility of the Department for  BioMedical Research. We provide our profound expertise in proteomics research, gained during more than 20 years, to our customers for experiment planning, data production and results evaluation at the highest level. The service is open to all academic research groups of the University of Bern as well as other institutions (academic and profit oriented). Our service encompasses identification, quantification by way of relative or absolute abundance measurement with label-free and stable isotope labeled approaches, as well as characterization of post-translational modifications and size of proteins. We operate exclusively nanoflow, reversed-phase liquid chromatography on 75 μm diameter columns for peptide/protein separation coupled to high resolution mass spectrometers, i.e. one QExactive classic, QExactive HF, and Orbitrap Tribrid Fusion Lumos. Furthermore, we operate powerful computer and server hardware using a variety of data interpretation software tools that allow fast data interpretation and result delivery to our customers.

Please get in contact with the head of the core facility, Manfred Heller, as early as possible in your project in order to assure that samples for analysis will be fully MS compatible and to discuss an optimal experimental design.
