FAQ

VPN allows you to work from any location as if your computer were connected directly to a network socket in a university building. Employees and students of the University of Bern and other universities and colleges in Switzerland and abroad use the wireless network eduroam. Members of the University of Bern log in with their campus account and can also access internal university resources, electronic publications and applications. Information and instructions can be found on the website Wireless network of the IT Services (ID) of the University of Bern.

Access to the Inselspital Bern SSL VPN portal is possible from UniBE after login and depending on authorization.

You can use the Switch Filesender service:

  • Secure, web-based service for sending large files
  • Several files can be uploaded at the same time. The limit of 300 GB applies to all
  • Maximum file size per upload: 300 GB
  • Maximum number of e-mail recipients: 50 e-mail addresses
  • Maximum retention period for files: 60 days (default setting 20 days)

You can use your Switch edu-ID

Windows:

To connect your network drives do the following:

  • Open Windows Explorer (WindowsKey + E)
  • Under “This Computer” -> On the top row “Computer”
  • Click “Map a network drive” and enter the path for your network drive(s): [This information will be provided by the IT department via email]
  • Click on finish and it should ask you for your campus username and password.

 

For MacOS:

  • Open the Finder
  • In the top row select “Go to…” -> “connect to Server…”
  • Enter the network path: [This information will be provided by the IT department via email]
  • Click on finish and it should ask you for your campus username and password.

Access to the documents and ordering is only possible within the university’s internal intranet

MFA uses the combination of two or more credentials to verify identity. It is used at the University of Bern to better protect data and applications, secure critical areas and prevent identity theft. Uniprint is a service offered by the University of Bern for printing, copying and scanning. You can pay for services using your UNICARD or Print Card. You can complete print jobs using any multifunctional printer connected to the Uniprint system.
